My worst job ever?
Working at the hotel spa was no vacation but I made my time there work for me.
Easy – working as a supervisor at a popular hotel Spa on the North Coast. The hours were brutal, the salary was a joke and I had to supervise 12 spa therapists who worked purely on commission. “insert cat-fight sound here”.
I wasn’t even able to be with my son because of the crazy shifts.
In short, hated it.
One day, after emerging from a rejuvenation service, a customer asked if the massage oil we used was available for retail purchase.
That immediately birthed an idea for me. I had watched for five months as these therapist made their own products using only natural ingredients. As part of my job, I had sold bottles of commercially made (chemical heavy) scrubs and massage oils and was in charge of ordering the spa oils and even bought a few items for myself.
I approached my manager and offered to start a social media page for the spa, which required heavy content knowledge and would force me into deep research. (Yup, you heard that right – I asked for MORE unpaid work!)
Hence the idea… Skin By Nature. A business which makes homemade body scrubs and body oils from only natural locally produced ingredients – was born.
Due to my months of unpaid research, focus and interest, I was prepared.
Presenting my line of Skin By Nature Products on national TV a few months later.
If you have an open mind, that is always looking for opportunities, any situation can work in your favor. I know jobs can be shitty. I know bosses can seriously drain your soul of energy if you let them. I have experienced all this.
I also know that there will be times when all you earn recycles right back into work expenses. I understand the frustration. I have lived it.
Repeatedly.
However, if you style your mind right, there may be opportunities around you that you can take advantage of.
Start looking at your job as a training ground for something bigger NOT a permanent situation.
It is never permanent by the way. You can ALWAYS get fired, the company can go out of business or maybe just maybe one day you get pushed beyond your limit.
Scouting out ideas and opportunities right where you are will empower you to deal with these turbulent changes. Start looking at what you can learn from where you are and how it can contribute to your bigger vision for your life.
You never know.
Start making this horrible job work in your favor. A friend of mine said it perfectly. He decided one day to "make his job his bitch"! He started looking for every single opportunity his government job had to offer and used it to glow-up his life.
The Science behind it: (‘Cuz I’m a bit of a nerd) The law of transmutation states that everything is energy. That energy can always be manipulated and turned into something positive or beneficial. If you understand how to manipulate it, nothing in your life is a waste or useless. You will start to recognize the deeply hidden value in terrible experiences and make them work for you.
The Challenge: Where you are now may not be where you want to be. And that is absolutely fine. As long as you keep learning where you are and keep your eyes open for opportunities around you. They are there.
Trust me. Keep challenging yourself to look at things differently. Make that job work for you.
Make it your b*tch!
Massive love + abundance Stephie
Thanks your encouraging words, Stephanie!
