Your Fear Is Lying to You (And Keeping You Broke)

Harsh? Maybe. But I needed to get your attention.
Because if you let this message sink in, it might just change your whole life.
The $200,000 Lesson I Almost Ignored
There’s a store in Montego Bay that gave me my first big-girl cheque. A solid $200,000.
It was the first time since starting this crazy idea of buying from China and reselling in stores that I actually believed I could do it.
Then something went wrong.
Maybe I got relaxed. Maybe I got distracted. Maybe both.
In two years, a competitor took my place. She undersold me and outshined my display.
And just like that, the doubts crept back in.
Every negative word I had ever heard about my business came rushing back:
Maybe they were all right about me.
Maybe I was never cut out for this.
And the loudest one? My dad's voice telling me I'd never be successful outside the family business.
So I did what fear wanted me to do. I walked away.
She won. I lost. Game over.
Or so I thought.
Reclaiming What Was Mine
Last month, I decided to be brave and walk back into that store.
Her products were still there but were not moving as fast as I expected.
And guess what? My items had upgraded. I now had newer, better styles that were in high demand in that area.
Lesson 1: Things were not as bad as I had imagined
But my old products were still there! Sitting in a sad little clearance basket at 50% off and still not selling. 😢
Shame started creeping back in, but this time, I didn't let it win.
Instead, I found a solution.
I offered the manager a deal. I would replace those dead-stock items with fresh, in-demand styles for free. I'd also set up a brand-new display to catch more attention.
And then, I did something I should have done long ago. I studied my competitor's stand. I saw what worked for her. I also finally used up the ideas I had but never executed and finally put them into play.
Lesson 2: There's ALWAYS something you can improve
That's when everything shifted.
I reclaimed my spot.
I rebuilt the buzz.
I took back my market share.
And guess what? I went from zero sales to $42,000/month in that store.
Now, my goal is to build it back to a $200,000/month location, but for now?
I'm winning again.
Final Lesson: Fear Feels Real, But It's Not Always Right
Fear is like an overprotective mother. It just wants to keep you safe.
But in doing so, it holds you back from growing. From fixing things and from reclaiming what's yours.
If I had listened to fear, I would have never walked back into that store. I would have never tried again.
And I wouldn't be here telling you that my confidence is so high now that I've already approached three additional stores in that parish.
So, What's the Step You're Afraid to Take?
Because let's be real - nothing changes until you do.
Maybe you need to raise your prices.
Maybe you need a better marketing strategy.
Maybe you just need to grit your teeth and do the damn thing.
The people making big moves? They’re not smarter than you.
They’re just braver.💪🏾✨
They push forward while others run back to their comfort zone.
So here’s your challenge: Set an intention.
Write down one brave move you'll make for your business this month.
Say it out loud and repeat it until it feels safe.
And then - go do it.
Your business deserves it. And so do you.
Success + support,
-Stephie 💕
